Types of Colleges in UPTAC 2026

UPTAC covers three categories of institutions:

Government / Government-Aided / Government Self-Financed Colleges: 100% of seats are filled through UPTAC counselling. These are the most competitive institutions in the list, their cutoffs are the tightest, but they offer the best infrastructure, fee structure, and academic reputation within the AKTU network.

Private Colleges: 85% of seats are filled through UPTAC. The remaining 15% are filled by the institute under Management/NRI quota. These form the majority of colleges in this list and provide range of branches spread across many districts.

What to Check Before Shortlisting from the College List

AICTE Approval: The entire list is AICTE approved but still confirm the approval of the branch that you opt, for the current year 2026-27.

Seat Matrix: Check the official seat matrix published, which reflects the exact available seats of a particular college, branch and category, before submitting choices.

Placement record: Get details about placement average and highest salary package, top recruiting firms, and overall placement percentages for the last 2 to 3 batches before shortlisting the colleges.

Fee Structure: Government Colleges are regulated by UP government. The private colleges determine their fees as decided by the UP Fee Fixation committee. Confirm the fee before reporting.

Location: Compare locations. The industrial environment of a city, the availability of hostels and proximity from the native place are important points. Lucknow, Kanpur, Ghaziabad, Noida have better placement networks than other cities.
